With Freelancer aging, it is possible that some of the newer video cards (graphics cards) may not be supported by the game, and this would result in blank screen or video problems on trying to start Freelancer, or visual effect problems when running the game.

The EOA Consortium is a group of FL fanatics with quite a bit of modding skill, who have made config files for a great number of graphics cards to enable the players who have those cards to run Freelancer again.

Here is the link to download their config file. They call it the "Freelancer Hardware Update".

Beware!! Back up your own files FIRST! The easy way is to rename them.

Check it out and let us know if it fixes your problems:-

If it doesn't work you should be able to delete the files provided by them and then rename your backed-up ones back.

Please don't blame me if it goes worse, you can report problems back to them directly.

RRJDS 2.82 includes the last FL Hardware Update.

ok really weird been playinf FL for years vanilla version on this system. Loaded RRJDS and now my vanilla will not load. Runs through the initial intro, shows freelancer screen, but instead of going to the main menu screen it drops back to desktop.

Even tried to load a vanilla version clean to a totally different folder, still nadda. Definatly some kind of grapics problewm I am sure but the intro videos and such run fine.

Solutions?? tried the link above it is dead, looked for this at lancers Nadda. Next idea as I still like ot play my J4F vanilla account at times also.

RRJDS 2.82 does not bugger up anybody's machine.

And nor does any other mod.

You have not deleted (or renamed) your saved games folder.

They are normally in:-
C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer\Accts

Delete or rename the entire Freelancer\Accts folder.

Be aware:
FLMM quite often (but not every time) leaves behind mod files and/or folders.

So if you have done it the way I recommended and made a copy of your vanilla FL or FL with 1.1 patch and mod the copy folder, all you need to do is rename or delete your modded Freelancer folder and then copy your original copy of FL as Freelancer, delete your player files, and away you go.

If you want the latest flconfigdatabase.txt you will find it in the EXE folder of your RRJDS 2.82 mod. It's safe to copy it into plain FL, just REMEMBER what you did.

Yes I did try to use FLMM at first with the first release so perhaps there is something left behind. By the time release 2 came out I had created a totally seperate FLRRJDS Folder and created a full game seperate from the Vanilla to avoid such things. I will save copies of my solo game files to a diff folder delete all in there, remake a new folder and try that.
Maybe that is the problem, if not I am stimmied on why or even how. Perhaps I was tipping on the edge as it were and all of this has simply sent it over. However I am sure my next post in the other forum will really get you flamming, but it is not the intent, ok?

Don't worry bud, I'm not testy. Sorry if I gave that impression.

Why plain FL or another mod won't run, is normally what I described above. It's happened to me several times, when I had forgotten to delete the old saved files.

Its because the saved game characters are carrying mod equipment that is not recognised. Instead of giving us understandable messages, FL just crashes.
